About Carl and Pat
Carl and Pat are members of Wycliffe Bible Translators Canada and have worked with the Summer Institute of Linguistics in PNG since 1974.
With Korin having graduated from high school in June 2011, all five of their children are now living in Canada and they will be adjusting to an empty nest after 36 years of parenting. Their primary work has been among the 25,000 Menya people, whose homeland is around Menyamya. The initial translation is being done by Menya men whom they have trained. They then work together to ensure that the meaning is clear and accurate and that it sounds like natural Menya. All of the New Testament, as well as portions of the Old, has already been translated at least in a first draft. The literacy level is very low, but there is a growing body of people who want to learn to read Menya and a growing number who are involved as teachers of their own people. This is part of a growing recognition within the Menya churches that producing the scripture in Menya and promoting its use is primarily their job.
The entire team needs your prayers and your support in order to be able to bring the New Testament to completion in the next few years (typesetting in late 2012 or early 2013) and to have it in use and changing lives. From July 2011 to June 2013, they are both members of the executive committee (equivalent to a board) for the Summer Institute of Linguistics in PNG.
